A Love Story
Richard Munden, the president of Interior Surfaces, and VP, Melānie Valdez Mendez Munden, the creative force behind Mekizo Designs, first met when Richard was in search of inspiration for a sales presentation. At the time, Melanie was an emerging artist, beginning to carve out her niche with Mekizo Designs, her fashion studio located on Barrington St. in Nova Scotia. This initial collaboration blossomed into a partnership that not only thrived in business but also flourished in their personal lives. Together, they have built a beautiful family, welcoming children Keilana and Kaidin.
Service Name
Mekizo Designs originated as a fashion label in Montreal. Armed with a background in design and marketing, Melanie returned to her roots in Halifax to establish her studio. Her artistic talents expanded beyond fashion into various mediums, including painting, landscaping, and furniture design. She even crafted Zen gardens from recycled materials, which gained popularity and were sold through a network of eco-friendly stores across Canada.
Service Name
A significant move to Toronto's Yonge and Eglinton district marked another turning point in Melanie's career, leading to the opening of Fields of Grain, an organic bakery and café. Here, she continued to showcase her furniture and artwork. With her passion for fashion and design still alive, another relocation to Vancouver opened the door to rug design. Partnering with Richard, an expert in wool and flooring, they launched Interior Surfaces. The company has since expanded its client base across Canada, North America, and beyond, 15 years later.
